Performers honoured at Stars of the Festival

Over 60 awards and scholarships were handed out at the Stars of the Rotary Festival of Music, held Wednesday night at the Weyburn Comp, that wrapped up the Weyburn Rotary Music Festival.



Over 60 awards and scholarships were handed out at the Stars of the Rotary Festival of Music, held Wednesday night at the Weyburn Comp, that wrapped up the Weyburn Rotary Music Festival. In addition to the awards and scholarships presented to the top performers in piano, instrumental and vocal categories, four performers were chosen to advance to the provincial level, and two of those will represent the province at the national level.

Meagan Milatz will be competing at the provincial and national Music Festivals. For piano, Meagan won $100 from Andrew Agencies; $150 from the Weyburn Arts Council; and $400 from the Rotary Club Alex Findlay Memorial Award.

Mikyla Jensen will competing in flute and piano at the provincial, and only flute for nationals. She won an instrumental trophy from the Weyburn School Music Auxiliary, a $100 instrumental award from the Southeast Cornerstone School Division; a $300 piano award from the Knights of Columbus; a $300 instrumental award from the Weyburn Young Fellows Club; and a $100 multidisciplinary award from Weyburn Security.

Michaela Sidloski and Britney Alexander were both recommended for the provincials piano competition. Michaela won a $200 piano award from Jerry Mainil Ltd., and Britney received the Shirley Bartlett Memorial $200 award and trophy.

The Weyburn Cooperative $300 award and trophy for best performance by a band went to the Weyburn Comp School concert band. The YF Wives $100 award and shield for vocal division 2 choir went to the St. Dominic Savio Singers. The Weyburn Musical Festival awarded trophies for individual verse to Jayda Cameron and Morgan Sidloski, and vocal trophies for ages 12 and under to Jenna Chessall and Emily Richards.

MC Music Craft presented $50 each to Tylan Charlton and Morgan Sidloski for piano duet, and trophies to Ross Van De Weyer and Bridget Alexander for piano piece composed by a Canadian, ages 12 and under. Western Financial Group presented trophies to Autumn Alexander and Kristen Keith for piano ages 12 and under; and $50 instrumental awards to Taylor Grams and Tristyn Lautner.

The Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division presented $125 to Britney, Brooke and Autumn Alexander for their vocal ensemble. The Weyburn and District Lioness Club presented a $100 band award to the Weyburn Junior High Grade 8 band, and a $100 vocal award to the Weyburn Comp STARS Show Choir.

The Quota International of Weyburn presented $25 each to Jayda Cameron and Morgan Sidloski for individual speech, and $50 and a trophy to Jesse Sidloski for brass.

The Weyburn Music Festival awarded trophies to Ross Van de Weyer and Morgan Sidloski for piano ages eight and under and ages 10 and under; and instrumental trophies to Morgan Sherrow and Matthew Chicoine. The Beta Sigma Phi Chapter presented a $100 piano award to Mason Charlton. The Orpheus Club presented a trophy to Tori Mahnke for vocal folk song.

The St. Michael and St. Dominic School Community Council presented $50 each to Bridget Alexander and Brooke Alexander for instrumental. Weimer's Hometown gave a $50 piano award to Sabrina Mainil, a $75 vocal award to Keisha Mowchenko, and a $75 instrumental award to the Haig School Grade 5 and 6 band. The Country Women's Association presented trophies to Dawson Alexander, Tylan Charlton, Arliss Sidloski and Mitch Bellefleur for piano ages 12 and under.

Instrumental trophies were presented by the Weyburn School Music Auxiliary to Rumina Edgerton and Jesse Sidloski; and they also presented $75 instrumental awards to both the Haig School Grades 3 and 4 choir and the Assiniboia Park Grades 4 and 5. A $100 piano award was presented to Benjamin Sidloski by Meyers Norris Penny.

The Weyburn Inner Wheel gave $100 vocal awards to Jenna Chessall and Paris Lyon. Andrew Agencies awarded a $100 piano award to Britney Alexander. The B.P.O. Elks presented a shield to Assiniboia Park School Grades 1, 2 and 3 for vocal, division one choir; and a $50 vocal award to Brooke Alexander.

The Order of the Eastern Star presented $50 each to Mason Charlton and Benjamin Sidloski for piano duet. The Arleigh Pulfer Memorial $100 award and piano trophy was presented to Brooke Alexander. The Weyburn Auto Dealers presented $250 and a shield to the Assiniboia Park Elementary School Grade 5 and 6 for a Grade 1 to 6 ensemble.

The Alexandria Rebekah Lodge presented $100 each and a shield to Britney Alexander and Kjel Sidloski for musical theatre. The $100 piano Building Pride Grant was awarded to Brooke Alexander, the $100 vocal Building Pride Grant was awarded to Morgan Sidloski. Two $100 vocal awards were presented to Haig School Choir Grade 1 and 2 and the Weyburn Comp School Girl's Chorus from Cornerstone.

Cornerstone also presented $100 instrumental awards to the trio of Marissa McCallum, Shelby Juravle and Michaela Sidloski, and the Weyburn Comp School Jazz Band. The Knights of Columbus presented a $100 vocal award to the Dozen Twelves, and $75 and woodwind trophy to Chantel Cooke, Shae Kordus and Adrienne LaRochelle.

The University Women's $75 vocal award in Memory of Stu Allen was presented to Tanner Russell and Jade Rooney. The Weyburn School Music Auxiliary gave a $50 piano award to Erica Chessall, and vocal trophies to Jayda Cameron, Torri Hill, Anita Lazurko and Meagan Milatz. Jerry Mainil Ltd. presented $100 vocal awards to the Weyburn Comp School boys ensemble, and the ensemble of Elanne Krainyk, Mikyla Jensen, Meagan Milatz, Anita Lazurko, Britney Alexander, and Kira Durston.

The $150 Elise and Ruth Dodds Piano Duet award was presented to Britney and Brooke Alexander. The Weyburn Credit Union presented a $75 piano award to Stephanie Thompson, a $50 piano award to Krista Sidloski, and a $125 vocal award to Elanne Krainyk, Anita Lazurko and Derek Tracey. Weyburn Security presented $150 piano awards to Marissa McCallum and Raquel Bellefleur.

The Bruce Robinson Memorial $100 award and trophy for vocal was presented to Elanne Krainyk. Barber Motors and Saskatchewan Choral Federation presented $200 to Paris Lyon. Apache Canada Ltd. awarded a $200 piano award to Jesse Sidloski. The Weyburn School Music Auxiliary presented $75 vocal awards to both Kelsey Balog and Jenna Neufeld.

The Rotary Club Library $200 vocal award was given to the Weyburn Comp Combined Grades 10 to 12 choir. The Weyburn and District Lions Club presented a $100 piano award to Keisha Mowchenko. The Royal Canadian Legion gave a band trophy to the Weyburn Junior High Jazz band.
