Police enforce sober driving during holiday season

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the period of December 6 to 12:

*On December 12, police were called to assist the Weyburn Fire Department at a house fire.

*On December 11, police arrested and charged a local female with the care and control of a vehicle while impaired. She will be appearing in court in December.

*Police were called to investigate the theft of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered and the matter is under investigation.

*Police were called to a break and enter of a home in Weyburn in which the suspect was scared away by the home owner. The matter is currently under investigation.

*On December 10, police assisted local EMS with a reported drug overdose of a local male. The male was transported to hospital to be treated.

*On December 9, police were called to investigate a complaint of a motorist not stopping for a school safety patroller. Motorists are reminded to be extra careful and vigilant when driving through school zones, and to obey all directions from school patrols.

*On December 8, police were called to assist in locating a missing child. The child was eventually located.

*Police were asked to assist Interpol Ottawa in investigating a Credit Card fraud complaint. This matter is under investigation

*On December 7, police were called to investigate a motor vehicle accident on Fifth Street. Damage to the vehicle was minor and no injuries were reported.

*Police were called to investigate a complaint of telephone threats. The matter was resolved between the parties involved.

*Police were called to a fight complaint outside of the City Centre Mall; the matter was resolved without incident.

*On December 6, police were called to attend the Souris Avenue area for a report of a domestic dispute. The parties were gone upon police arrival.

*Police were called to investigate a complaint of damage to the Court House on Prairie Avenue that is currently under construction. The matter is under investigation.

*Police were called to investigate a break and enter on Sixth Street in which entry was gained through a door. This matter is under investigation.

*During this reporting period, Weyburn Police Service (WPS) members attended 101 calls for service. Many calls were alcohol related and this past weekend WPS and RCMP members conducted a joint traffic stop where one impaired driver was arrested, several traffic tickets were issued, two drivers were suspended and, in one case, a male person was charged by local RCMP officers with carrying a concealed weapon.

*Once again, residents are reminded that during the busy holiday season police members will be making an extra effort in traffic and drinking and driving enforcement. Police want to remind residents to refrain from drinking and driving this season.

Motorists are also reminded that the use of any electronic device while driving is prohibited by law and drivers are subject to a fine of $280.
