Police investigating more thefts

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of March 26 to April 1: During the reporting period, police handled 91 calls for service, including three reported hit and run accidents, four noisy property complaints and eight false alarms.

During the reporting period, police handled 91 calls for service, including three reported hit and run accidents, four noisy property complaints and eight false alarms.

*With the nicer weather and the change of seasons, the complaints of all terrain vehicles within city limits and skateboarders downtown increase. ATV owners are reminded that they are not allowed to operate ATVs within City limits. Skateboarders are not allowed between Government Road and 4th Street and Railway Avenue and Coteau Avenue. These are City bylaws and can result in fines and/or seizure of ATV or skateboards.

*On April 1, police received call regarding two men fighting in the downtown area. Police arrived and spoke with those involved; it was found that the two were friends and just messing around. The two had been drinking and were sent on their way.

*Police were called to Laing Crescent by a resident concerned about two people riding quads on the street. The quads were gone when police arrived.

*Police came across a fight outside a local pub. The fight was broken up and neither side wished to pursue charges.

*A short time later, police were called to an altercation between two females on 8th Street. The two intoxicated females were found and split up. Neither party wanted anything done by police. One female was removed and taken home by another friend.

*A male went to the police station to report that his car had been stolen by someone who used it to run into his neighbours' fence and then returned to his driveway. Through investigation it was found that the male was not being truthful with police. The male was charged with failing to notify the owner of property of damage. He could have also been charged with Mischief under the Criminal Code for providing false information to police.

*A hit and run was reported in the Tim Horton's parking lot. The caller reported that a white Ford had backed into a parked vehicle and then left. The caller was unable to provide a plate number. Minor scratches were found on the front bumper of the parked car.

*Mischief to a school was reported to police by two people walking by. They observed kids spray paint on the school and then leave in a four-door silver car. Patrol attended and found some wording spray painted. The matter is still under investigation.

*Police were called to a domestic disturbance on Water Street. Officers were able to calm the couple without anything further taking place.

*On March 31, a motorist reported that someone had put a trailer in the middle of the street at Ash Drive and Douglas Road. The motorist moved the trailer to the side of the street. The area was patrolled, but those responsible were not found.

*Police were called to a home after a break and enter on 9th Street. The homeowner believed the person was still in the house. Police attended and found the basement window smashed, but no one inside.

*Police were asked to attend a residence to keep the peace while property was removed. Police were present and the exchange happened without issue.

*Assistance was requested by a daughter to help locate her father. While police were looking for the man, it was found that he had left to work with someone else.

*A complaint was received of some youths shooting bb guns. The youths were located and spoken to. The parent was told that a City bylaw does not allow the use of bb guns within City limits.

*Police were called to Haig School after a passerby saw some kids on the roof of the school. Two youths were located and brought to the police headquarters. Their parents were called to pick them up and they were warned of their behavior.

*Police attended a local youth hang out spot to help staff remove two youths that were not allowed on the property. The two were spoken to by police and sent on their way.

*An intoxicated male walked into the Weyburn Police Service headquarters drinking a beer. He was arrested for being drunk in public and lodged in cells for the night.

*Mischief to a vehicle was reported. The owner came out of his house to find his vehicle wrapped in saran wrap. The complainant was able to get a plate number off of the vehicle that had those responsible inside. The vehicle was located by police. Individuals can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act for tampering with a motor vehicle or if major damage is done, under the Criminal Code for Mischief.

*On March 30, police observed an intoxicated male intentionally knock over a mailbox. The male was arrested for drunk in public and lodged in cells till sober.

*The Southeast Cornerstone School Division called the police reporting someone had stolen batteries from the bus barn on Railway Avenue. An investigation is continuing.

*Staff from a local business called to report an intoxicated male in their store and would not leave. When police arrived the male had left, but was found a short distance away.

*Police were called to Barber Crescent. The caller believed that someone had tried to break into her vehicle. Police attended and the investigation continues.

*On March 29, a local bank had what they believed to be counterfeit bills. The bills were examined and found to be real. The bills were of an older series and returned to the bank to process. Later that day a patron at the bank was sent to the police to have bills that she had received, examined and these bills were also determined to be real.

*Complaints were received of two people riding mini-bikes on Laing Crescent. Police located those responsible and informed them of the bylaw that does not allow off road vehicles within City limits.

*Police attended a report of a stolen Carson truck from the Weyburn Trailer Court. The truck was located a short time later, however, the driver had fled the scene. The matter is still under investigation.

*A traffic stop was made on a vehicle, which resulted in the driver being given a 24-hour driving suspension.

*On March 28, a computer scam was reported.The person was told that his computer could be fixed remotely. The victim provided his credit card information and found it to be used for unauthorized purchases, the matter is being investigated.

*A woman attended the station regarding some medical problems she was having. The woman was given a ride to the hospital by Police.

*An intoxicated male was reported in the area of the Dog Park. The male was located and removed without incident.

*On March 27, police received a complaint from a home owner in the 1400 block of Coteau Avenue. The caller had three of her vehicles rummaged through, with some items being taken. This matter is still an open investigation.

*Police were called by a school staff to assist in locating a young female with medical history. The youth was located a short time later and taken back to school.

*A resident on 10th Street called to report that sometime during the night her car was gone through. An iPod touch was taken from the vehicle.

*Ranch Ehrlo staff contacted Weyburn City Police asking for assistance in locating two youths that had run away from their facility and they believed to be in Weyburn. Police were able to locate the two youths, who were held and turned over to Ranch Ehrlo staff.

*A complaint was received from a home owner that someone had entered his home and stole various food items.

*On March 26, police received a call from Haig School that a window appeared to have been shot with a pellet gun. Employees of the school believe that the damage occurred on the weekend, the investigation is ongoing.

*Two separate reports were taken for hit and run accidents that happened within the city. If involved in an accident, it is to be reported to the nearest police as soon as possible, failing to do so can result in charges under the Highway Traffic Act. Also, if damage is done to property due to an accident the owner of that property is to be notified, charges can result if this is not done.

*The Weyburn Police Service assisted the Estevan Police Service in an accident that resulted in damage done to a CPRail crossing arm, information was taken and forwarded to Estevan.

A complaint was made of an erratic driver coming into Weyburn on Highway #39 toward Government Road. The driver was located and warned of his driving actions. The driver was upset because someone had placed a handicap parking sign on his car.
