Police mediate public and private disputes

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of February 4 to 11: During the reporting period, police received a number of complaints of vehicles parked over 48 hours on our streets.

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of February 4 to 11:

During the reporting period, police received a number of complaints of vehicles parked over 48 hours on our streets. These vehicles make it difficult for the city to do snow removal. Vehicles parked for longer than 48 hours will be either ticketed or towed. Police are asking residents for their cooperation in not parking on any street for more than 48 consecutive hours.

*On February 10, police attended a local bar upon receiving a call from a resident who was concerned about being assaulted. Police gave the caller a ride prior to an ensuing conflict.

*Police attended to a call in the northeast corner of the city, where witnesses observed individuals rummaging through vehicles. The individuals had left prior to police arrival. Some stolen articles were recovered and the matter is under investigation.

*Police received a call from a resident who was concerned about suspicious activity at the neighbour's house, as it had appeared that persons were breaking into the house. The individuals, who were friends of the homeowner, had permission to enter the residence.

*Police received a complaint of a vehicle that had received damage while parked in a downtown parking lot. A report was taken and the owner was directed to SGI for insurance.

*Police received a report of a theft of cash. The complainant entrusted the accused to validate a winning ticket and bring him the cash. The accused, who was known to the victim, spent the money instead of giving it to the rightful owner. The accused has agreed to make restitution to the victim.

*Police were called to deal with two individuals who were kicked off a provincial transport bus for consuming alcohol.

*Police were called to assist EMS with a patient of a snowmobile accident in a field on the north side of the city. The 30-year-old male was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

*Police attended to a domestic situation, where allegations were made of assault on one of the children. The matter is still under investigation.

*Police responded to assist EMS with a report of a 31-year-old male having a cardiac arrest in a residence. The male was taken by ambulance to hospital for medical treatment.

*Police attended to a noise complaint at an apartment building. The occupants were cooperative and turned down the music, which was the source of the noise complaint.

*Police attended to a residence after receiving a complaint of unknown individuals banging on the windows. Police located the individuals responsible, who were trying to locate a friend they thought was at the residence.

*On February 9, police were called to remove a person from the bar who was refusing to leave. Upon police arrival the person left without incident.

*Police attended to a fight at a local bar. One individual was taken into custody until sober and subsequently charged for fighting in a public place.

*Police received a report of a hit and run accident while a vehicle was parked at a local business. Information was obtained and the individual was directed to SGI to report for insurance purposes.

*Police were called to remove a youth from a public place for behaving inappropriately. The youth left with police without incident agreeing not to return.

*On February 8, police attended to an accident on Highway #39. A vehicle pulling a trailer needed to be pulled out after sliding into a snow bank. Police directed traffic and requested the intersection be sanded to avoid further incident.

*Police received a report from a local business of an internal theft. The matter is under investigation.

*Police attended to a local ice rink to assist in removing a person for their inappropriate behavior. The individual had made inappropriate comments and displayed behavior that required his removal from the premises. The matter was resolved without incident.

*Police were called to a local hotel regarding a complaint of a loud disturbance coming from a room. A family argument had gotten out of hand, alcohol was a contributing factor. Some of the combatants were taken out of the hotel.

*On February 7, police were called to assist with a domestic dispute over custody and access of the children. The parties were encouraged to find a resolution in family court and to set guidelines for each parent to follow that are suitable in the situation.

*Police attended to a report of an erratic driver, who had hit a curb in front of a restaurant. The driver appeared disoriented. It was determined the individual was suffering from medical issues and the person was taken by an ambulance for medical treatment.

*Police received a number of calls to a fight in progress at a drinking establishment. A large group of individuals was participating in the fight and police dispersed the group. The matter is still under investigation for potential criminal charges. One person was transported to the hospital by EMS as a result of injuries sustained during the altercation.

*Police are investigating a report of an individual attempting to get into a secure apartment building. When refused entry, the individual got abusive and displayed inappropriate behavior. The matter is under investigation.

*On February 6, police attended to a conflict at a residence between two males. One person was threatening to attend the residence but was reminded of a no-contact clause prior to attending the residence. The matter was resolved without further incident.

*Police assisted in locating a person with medical issues after they were in conflict and left their home. The individual was located and returned to their home.

*Police attended to an accident at the intersection of Douglas Road and Duke Street. There were no injuries, but vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.

*On February 6, police attended to a local bar in regard to a fight in progress. The main instigator had departed prior to police arrival. A short time later police were called back to the same hotel for a second altercation.

*On February 5, police attended to a local hotel to deal with a drunk man trying to get into a room. Police were able to resolve the situation by finding his girlfriend to take custody of him.

*Police responded to a call of an erratic driver on the north side of the city. Police located the vehicle and warned the driver of his actions. Alcohol was not a contributing factor.

*Police received a report of a domestic dispute and allegations of one party being in breach of release conditions. The matter is under investigation.

*Police attended to a domestic situation involving a conflict over the children. Officers spoke with all of the involved persons and the matter was resolved with no need for further police involvement.

*Police dealt with a conflict between friends sending inappropriate messages to each other. After the police intervened and spoke to the individuals, the messaging stopped.

*On February 4, police attended a local hotel as a result of a customer leaving without paying for their room. The customer provided a credit card that was not valid. The fraud is still under investigation.

*Police were called to a domestic conflict where one party was threatening to kill the other party. The safety of the recipients of the threats was the primary concern and the matter is still being investigated to support criminal charges.

*Police attended a motor vehicle accident on King Street involving a vehicle and a semi truck. Vehicles had to be towed from the scene and one driver was charged for driving without due care and attention.

*Police were called to investigate a woman receiving harassing phone calls of a sexual nature. The originating number was identified to a specific caller and the matter is still under investigation.
