Police respond to phone scam

On Mar. 12, a Weyburn resident was called and asked to send $1,200 to an address. In return they would receive $3,000,000 back. No funds were sent to the address. Phone scams have become quite common in the Weyburn area and residents are reminded never to forward funds or personal information to unknown sources.
Police responded to a domestic dispute on Mar. 12, one of the parties left the residence without incident accompanied by the children.

A vehicle was broken into and a 3G iPhone was stolen out of it, police are investigating the theft.

Calls on Mar. 13 included a small amount of change that was taken from an unlocked vehicle, and a local gas station had a gas drive off in the amount of $40.
Four electric heaters were reported stolen from an unlocked trailer on Mar. 14.
Police responded to an accident in a parking lot on Mar. 15. The suspect driver had backed into two parked vehicles, accelerated forward and came to a stop. A charge of unsafe backing up was laid.

A vehicle drove into the wall of a local business that same day, which in turn pushed into a patron. The patron was transported to hospital and released shortly after with minor injuries.

A wallet was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle on Mar. 15.

A resident was contacted by phone on Mar. 15 and solicited for funds to fix his computer, and he gave his credit card number to the company. After failing to fix the computer, the company attempted to solicit more funds to send software to fix the computer. This is a telephone scam and residents are warned to be aware of this occurrence as it has happened many times in the Weyburn area.

Police stopped a vehicle after it disobeyed a stop sign on Mar. 16. The driver had been drinking and was issued a 24-hour suspension, he was also charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking after a quantity of marihuana was found, and received two traffic tickets for offences committed.

Reports of a loud party in the garage of a residence were received on Mar. 16. Police responded to the complaint, approximately 60-70 kids were asked to leave the garage and area. While dealing with the party additional complaints were received.

A ticket for noisy party was issued under the bylaw.

Several cars were damaged when their mirrors were broken off in acts of vandalism on Mar. 17. In what appeared to be a related incident, a homeowner was awaken when a street sign was thrown through two panes of a front picture window.

Investigation into the vandalism and mischief is ongoing.

Other incidents on Mar. 17 included a vehicle had its side mirror kicked off while parked in a parking lot, damage was done to the chimney of a city-owned building, culprit(s) spray painted graffiti on a school bus and two schools, and the side mirrors on five vehicles were damaged or broken off in another area of the city.
