*On January 1, the Weyburn Police Service and Weyburn EMS responded to a report of a male person having been stabbed. Investigation revealed that the incident began earlier in the day in a local hotel room where a 20-year-old male was struck with a bottle, resulting in a moderate injury to his head. The dispute later escalated at the accused residence where the victim was severely beaten and then stabbed with a knife.

The victim received significant but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the stabbing. The victim also received significant injuries to his head as a result of the beating. He was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital and then to the Regina General Hospital.

A 20-year-old Weyburn resident was arrested at the scene and is facing one charge of assault causing bodily harm, one charge of aggravated assault and one charge of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He will make his first court appearance in Weyburn on January 4. Alcohol and drugs are believed to have been a contributing factor in this incident and it appears to be an isolated incident in which both people were known to each other.

This senseless alcohol induced act caused significant emotional distress for the family and taxed the resources of an already very busy police service.

*On December 21, police responded to an assault at a coffee shop in the Weyburn mall. A 40-year-old female assaulted a 52-year-old female. The 40-year-old was taken into custody and the matter is still under investigation.

Drivers must leave their name and information with the damaged vehicle. Failing to do so is an offence under the Traffic Safety Act.

The Weyburn Police Service dealt with many incidents during this reporting period, many of them alcohol related.
