Police urge drivers to use caution while avoiding road hazards

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of April 2 to 9: During the reporting period, police handled 123 calls for service. Of these, 17 were for false alarms, six were liquor tickets issued and four were motor vehicle collisions.

During the reporting period, police handled 123 calls for service. Of these, 17 were for false alarms, six were liquor tickets issued and four were motor vehicle collisions.

*Also during this week, police were successful in concluding a case from March 17 when some vehicles were damaged. An 18 year old male and a 19 year old male have been arrested and charged. The investigation is still ongoing with additional arrests and charges being anticipated.

*The unusual winter and warm spring have made for some interesting potholes in our streets. As you travel about we urge you to slow down and exercise more caution than normal so that if you have to take evasive action to avoid a road hazard you will not endanger other users of the streets.

*On April 8, police began investigating a complaint of a 37 year old male having been assaulted outside a local pub and the matter is still under investigation.

*On April 7, police handled two unrelated complaints of distraught individuals wanting to harm themselves. In the first instance, a 47 year old female had called the Health Line indicating that she wished to harm herself. Police and EMS attended and the female was transported to the local hospital without further incident. In the second case, a 63 year old male had called the Health Line. Police were able to determine that the male was not in any immediate danger and the incident was resolved without further involvement.

*On April 6, a 27 year old male was charged with driving while suspended and had his vehicle seized.

*On April 5, as a result of a traffic stop for a vehicle not displaying a licence plate, it was discovered that the plate had been stolen from the vehicle.

*On April 4, police began investigating a complaint of mischief to a local residence.

*On April 2, police received a complaint of mischief to a vehicle parked in the 900 Block of First Avenue N.W., where it appears the windshield was shot with either a pellet gun or .22 calibre rifle.

*Police responded to traffic collision involving a vehicle and a six year old male. Investigation revealed that the boy rode out from among parked vehicles. The driver of the vehicle was unable to stop resulting in a collision with the youth. The youth was transported to local hospital where he was treated and released. The driver of the vehicle was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle.

*As a result of a complaint of a drunk driver leaving a local business, the driver's vehicle was subsequently located north of Weyburn by an off-duty officer. The vehicle had run off the road and into the ditch twice prior to being stopped by police. A 35 year old male from Edenwold has been charged with impaired driving and driving over .08.
