Scrap Tire Corp. provides grant

Weyburn has been selected by the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation (SSTC) as a recipient of funding under the SSTC's Community Demonstration Grant Program.

The SSTC is providing funding to the Color My World Child Care for a pour in place surface on a large open play area, safe walkways and wheelchair accessible entrances for their Outdoor Play & Exploration Space.

The Funding is part of the SSTC Community Grant Program, which encourages communities to make use of recycled tire products manufactured in Saskatchewan. The Color My World Child Care facility is one of five pilot projects this year to receive such funding.

"The Community Demonstration Grant program is a great way for the scrap tire corporation to give back to the communities that have helped make SSTC one of the most successful recycling programs in the country. The grants encourage innovative uses for recycled scrap tires," said SSTC Executive Director Theresa McQuoid.

Each project serves as an example of environmental stewardship and innovation. The program is open to all Saskatchewan municipalities, registered non-profit organizations/community groups, schools, and First Nations and Metis settlements. The program provides matching grants up to $5,000 for a project. This year approximately $20,000 worth of grants were provided to six communities within Saskatchewan.

SSTC is a non-profit corporation funded by the tire recycling fees levied on the purchase of new tires. Since 1996, more that 15 million tires have been diverted from landfills and recycled into usable products.
