Approximately 50 volunteers were out in southeast Saskatchewan on July 21 an effort to find Nathan Rubbert, a 38-year-old man who has been missing since July 18.

The search was organized by Gail McConnell and Sheri Gibson, who are both connected to Rubbert. Searchers have been mostly on foot, but they also used drones, helicopters, airplanes, all-terrain vehicles, side-by-sides and trucks, according to Gibson.

“We’re trying to cover as much (ground) as possible,” said McConnell. “We’ve been mostly running … along the river.”

One person employed a thermal imaging camera.

They were also looking in abandoned farm yards, hills and other areas.

“We’re trying to get it out there to farmers and whoever to check their yards and sheds and barns, whatever is out there. So far we’ve come up with nothing. Just people are searching on the ground as much as we can. It’s so tree-filled out here.”

After hearing there might have been a sighting south of Glen Ewen, searchers went out there.

The search wrapped up at dark. Volunteers were fed before being sent home. Another search was scheduled for July 22, but it has been called off.

Gibson noted that Rubbert is a close friend of her husband’s. They received word on July 20 that his mother was concerned about his whereabouts, and reached out to Gibson’s husband.

“We started looking yesterday, and a friend or two had been as well, and then I said ‘We didn’t get anywhere yesterday, we need to start co-ordinating something a little bigger, and get the word out there, and see if we can find him,” said Gibson.

McConnell works with Rubbert’s mother, and thought it was important to have a search.

Gibson noted that Rubbert has changed his appearance, and an updated photo has been circulated. Rubbert’s head was recently shaved and he has also shaved his moustache and beard. They ask if anyone has information to please call police.
