As the piles and piles of recycling begin to form a giant mountain at the Pentecostal Assembly in Carlyle, youth begin to get excited about a trip they will soon take.
The Shockwave Youth Centre is a place where teens from the ages of 12 to 18, can go to keep busy and out of any negative temptations of the world.
"You're missing out if you aren't a part of this," Matt Redstone, Youth Pastor at Carlyle Pentecostal assembly says in excitement. "We have loud music, and video games and it's just a good place to hang out and meet friends."
The group has been going strong for over two years now, and has joined in on many of the church's mission trips, including a recent trip to Mexico.
A total of 52 people went on the Mexico mission, divided into two trips of 26 each. The groups participated in many work projects and distributed clothing and food to less fortunate families.
The families names were supplied by local churches, and all of them were extremely grateful for the small amounts they were given.
"We couldn't have done it without the community of Carlyle. Everyone got together and gave clothes and other donations. It was a huge help," Pastor Matt thanked.
"At the end of everyday we had a group share time," he said. "We were to answer where we had each witnessed God that day. Everyone gave a different answer as to where they had been seeing Him."
Now, 27 teens from the youth centre are ready to have some fun themselves.
The youth will be attending, YC, a conference whose theme is Surrender, being held April 25 to April 27 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It includes guest speakers, concerts and workshops by groups such as Unhindered, Rapture Ruckus, Group1Crew, Fresh IE, Panic Squad and Elijah Waters.
"Off the top of my head, I am most excited about one side room session on the topic of media, culture and faith's role in all that," said Pastor Matt.
Many fundraisers were held for this event, including a bottle drive. The money from these fundraising events went to the food, gas and accommodations for the trip. Registration fees were charged directly to each young person in order to insure a number of people attending.
