The delegates to the Southeast Regional Library pack the Captain’s Hall on Saturday morning for their annual meeting, and discussed the future of the regional library system, with representatives of all member branch libraries and the RMs, cities, towns and villages who pay a per capita fee to belong to the organization. The delegates voted 48 to 28 in favour of an increase of $5.77 per capita to continue funding the regional library until the end of 2017, but noted that the regional library will not be able to ask for this again next year. The increase was passed as the provincial government cut 58 per cent of their funding retroactive to Jan. 1, and the delegates acknowledged this has put the system in a “crisis” situation. Two full-time positions have already been cut from the regional library staff.
