Sun Country Health Region has announced that tenders have been awarded for construction of two long term care projects.

A tender was awarded to Ledcor Construction Ltd. for $18,724.552 plus GST to build a new integrated facility in Radville to replace the Radville Marian Health Centre.

The new Radville facility will provide 25 long term care beds and five multipurpose beds, as well as space for an emergency department, medical clinic, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, adult day program, therapies, home care and public health in about 4000 square metres.

The long term care area will be divided into two houses, with 12-13 residents in each "house." The intent is to make a more home-like atmosphere for residents.

A tender was also awarded to T.L. Penner Construction Inc. for $10,915,550 plus GST to build an addition to the Redvers Health Centre.

The new wing will replace the current one built in 1967. It will provide 23 long term care beds and one multipurpose bed in about 2000 square metres.

The new wing will be divided into two "houses" with 12 residents in each, again to provide a homelike atmosphere for residents.

"Sun Country Health Region is pleased to see these new facilities become a reality for the communities," says Pamela Haupstein, Interim Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services. "Construction begins immediately and we will continue to work hard to remain on budget and on schedule. We expect that residents will be able to be moved into their new homes in 2013."
