REGINA - The Government of Saskatchewan has confirmed that approximately 200 more Ukrainian citizens will arrive at Regina International Airport tonight.
This is the third of five humanitarian flights bringing Ukrainian refugees to Saskatchewan.
The province is again partnering with the humanitarian organizations Solidaire and Open Arms to bring the Ukrainian citizens to the province. Premier Scott Moe signed a memorandum of understanding with representatives from Solidaire and Open Arms on Aug. 12, pledging to partner on five humanitarian flights into Saskatchewan by March 31, 2023.
When the Ukraine citizens arrive, a settlement reception centre will be available with on-site personnel. There, they will be available to issue Saskatchewan health cards, assist the setup of bank accounts, and provide information on housing, employment, education, community supports and so on.
So far, over 2,000 Ukraine citizens are estimated to have arrived in Saskatchewan since the war began. The first flight of Ukrainians to Regina from Warsaw, Poland landed in early July, with a second flight arriving in August.
"The people and businesses of Saskatchewan are once again prepared to welcome these refugees to our province and our communities," Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a statement. "We expect they will settle across the province, just as we have experienced with the first two flights, and we are proud to offer them a sense of safety and security, something they have been missing for some time."
