The Weyburn Police Service responded to 69 calls for service during the week of July 5-11, resulting in a total of 20 charges. Of the charges, eight were traffic related, eight were under the Criminal Code of Canada, and four were under the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act.
An adult male faces several charges after shooting another adult male in the back of the head with a pump-action pellet gun. The reported incident occurred early evening on July 5. Although the victim suffered a minor injury, pellet guns can be very dangerous, especially at close range.
The male, who now faces charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of his release, was arrested and held for court.
Thursday proved to be a busy day for the Weyburn Police Service. In the very early morning hours, officers were called to assist health personnel search for a patient who wandered off from a health facility and could not be located. Fortunately, officers located the missing patient and returned him to the facility.
Early Thursday afternoon saw officers deal with two more significant matters. Shortly after the lunch hour, an officer on patrol noticed an adult male known to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The officer attempted to stop the male but the male fled from the officer on foot. Other officers assisted and the male was located and taken into custody. The male was held for court.
Also early Thursday afternoon, officers on patrol noticed an erratic driver and conducted a traffic stop, resulting in the adult male driver being charged with possession of a controlled substance as well as a possible impaired driving charge pending further investigation.
The sudden windstorm that struck Weyburn on Sunday evening created several calls for police, including downed trees and a large business sign that collapsed onto a parked vehicle.
During the week, the Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of other calls involving domestic disputes, family relations, mental health, general wellbeing checks, and City of Weyburn bylaw-related issues.
