Wor-Kin Shop announces new Gold Sponsor

The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. recently accepted a generous donation of $10,000 towards the non profit agency's new Day Program Building fund.

The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. recently accepted a generous donation of $10,000 towards the non profit agency's new Day Program Building fund.

"We are pleased to announce that the Ladies Legion Auxiliary Branch #47 has once again come forth with a donation," said executive director Andria Brady. "When combined with their previous donations in 2012, this brings them to $13,500, elevating the group to a Gold Sponsorship level." The group, along with all donors of $500 or more, will be recognized in a permanent memorial in the new building.

"I have to say that when I was contacted by these ladies, I was truly amazed at their level of commitment," said Brady. "This is a group of dedicated ladies who raise money through banquets, funeral lunches, preparing vegetables, running bake sales and raffles and assist in other ways to raise funds for our community. At their awards night in April 2013, several awards were given to members ranging from 25 to 50 years as well as Lifetime memberships. They are selfless volunteers who believe in the community and go above and beyond to make Weyburn a better place for everyone."

All funds raised will go towards the agency's goal of raising $500,000 in order to begin construction on their new Day Program facility to support adults with intellectual disabilities.

Total committed funds have now surpassed $300,000. The Ministry of Social Services has confirmed construction will not be allowed to proceed until the entire $500,000 has been raised; however the agency is still optimistic that they will be breaking ground this year and are moving ahead with detailed building design plans. Once their goal is met, the Ministry will release the remainder of their $1 million commitment so that construction can proceed.

Once built, the Ministry will provide annualized operational funding as they do now, so that no ongoing fundraising will be required by the agency. The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. has been operating their Day Program since 1971 and over the years has supported hundreds of individuals with disabilities.
