World Prayer

The Assiniboia community held a World Day of Prayer service on March 3 hosted by the Messiah Lutheran Church. The well-attended event brought in members from all of Assiniboia’s faith communities. Clergy from Assiniboia churches also attended and participated. This year featured a Filipino theme, with the prayer for the global event, “Am I being unfair to you?” written by the World Day of Prayer committee of the Philippines. The World Day of Prayer has been connecting people for more than a century.  The Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada coordinates the World Day of Prayer in Canada.
The Filipino community of Assiniboia took part in the readings and stories while also sharing their knowledge of the Philippines with people in Canada.  The service included readings with a leader and responses by those attending. Fr. Remot also noted that the Philippines have adopted values from other countries and mixed it with their own traditions. For example, Christian values from Europe are prevalent as is spiritual values from Asia. The economy has been influenced by North America.
