Yellow Grass (cpd) - Yellow Grass School will be hosting two volleyball tournaments in November and volunteers are needed to work in the canteen or supply baking. The junior girls volleyball division finals will be on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The provincial girls volleyball tournament will be on the weekend of Nov. 19 and 20. For more information or to volunteer call Bev Hockley. All money raised will go toward the purchase of new equipment for the school.

The Grades 5 and 6 classes hosted a bake sale in the school Resource Centre on Oct. 13. Many Halloween themed goodies were sold.

A new outcome-based report card will be used in all schools across the South East Cornerstone School Division. Instead of a percentage grade, students in Kindergarten to Grade 9 will be graded using a scale to indicate the students success in each subject. Students work habits and social skills will be assessed separately for a clearer picture of their performance. Students in Grade 10, 11, and 12 will continue to be graded with a percentage mark.

There will not be any classes on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 4 and 5, as the teachers will be attending a convention in Weyburn. Nov. 11 and Nov. 12 will be Remembrance Day holidays. Parent/teacher/student interviews will be held on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25. Nov. 26 will be a day off in lieu of time spent for the interviews.

The Lilac United Church Women's Unit met in the Yellow Grass United Church kitchen on Oct. 6. Grace Quigley was in charge of the worship and program. Eileen Lansdell provided the dessert lunch.

A Thanksgiving theme was used for both the program and the worship. A few business items included ordering 2011 United Church calendars, a no-bake sale at the Nov. 1 meeting, giving donations to the United Church Memorial Fund in memory of Neta Bathgate and Mabel Colquhoun, and an updated report on Christmas remembrances for shut-ins. Joan Klippenstein will be the hostess at the Nov. 1 meeting.

Cribbage was played in the drop-in centre on Oct. 8. Taking first place was Doug Wilkinson while second place went to Joan Harder.

Gladys Beatrice Jeannette McNaught, former resident of Yellow Grass, passed away on Oct. 11 at 92 years of age. Funeral service was held on Oct. 16 in the Yellow Grass United Church. Reverend David Hanes officiated. Interment was held in the Yellow Grass Cemetery.

The town of Yellow Grass has their own website and it may be accessed by visiting www.yellowgrass.ca. More work needs to be done on the website and suggestions or ideas are welcome.

T-shirts are still available at the town office with adult, youth, and children sizes costing $20, $15, and $10 respectively.
