YouthBiz e-show contest 2011 winners announced

The winners of the 2011 YouthBiz competition were announced on Dec.



The winners of the 2011 YouthBiz competition were announced on Dec. 9, and a total of $2,100 in prize money was presented to students in southeast Saskatchewan for their efforts in describing and creating new business ideas and developing business plans.

There were 170 students registered to compete in this innovative business contest, which is run and coordinated by Community Futures Sunrise.

In the Grades 10-12 category, first place and $500 in prize money went to Tyler Kerr of Weyburn, for his venture, Kerr's Gym.
Second prize and $300 was awarded to Courtney Knibbs of Stoughton for her bakery business, Sweet Tooth.
Third place and $150 went to Lyndon Lumb of Weyburn for his business, Winding Road Outdoor Living, a company that sells supplies to outdoor enthusiasts.

In the Grade 6-9 category, first place and $500 in prize money went to Paige Kuntz of Macoun for her idea, Jumping Jelli Beans, a candy shop.

Second place and $300 went to Morgan Sidloski and Tylan Charlton of Weyburn for their business, MT Pet Photography. Third place and $150 was awarded to Malea Andrist of Macoun for her bakery idea, Chip Chocolate.
Special achievement awards were also given to students whose entries displayed outstanding qualities in their submission materials.

Carly Krewleski and Emily Thompson of Estevan won the Product Development Award for their smoothie business, Get Fruity. They documented the production process and provided smoothie samples to classmates.
Southern Flats Campground, a business idea developed by Bailey Kozma from Carievale, won for the outstanding slogan of, "We feed your camping need!"

Taylor Olver and Baillie MaKenzie-Ellis from Estevan were recognized for the way they used technology in marketing in Calson's Bakery.

Lastly, an award for financial detail and researh was won by Kane Altwasser of Yellow Grass. In the business plan for Prairie Boarding shop, Kane thoroughly listed both costs and suppliers for his snowboard store.

Mentorship was provided to students by regional teachers, with support coming from Cenovus, Spectra Credit Union, Weyburn Credit Union, SaskTel, SaskEnergy and Jerry Mainil Ltd.
