The Estevan Bruins were awarded the 2012 SJHL Hall of Fame game during the league's semi-annual meetings in Melfort last weekend.

To call it a good week for the Estevan Sherritt Coal peewee AA Bruins would be an understatement. First, on Wednesday, the Bruins doubled up the Weyburn Youngfellows 6-3 at Spectra Place to win their first-round provincial series by a 13-7 total.

The Estevan Apex Bruins are in a hole in their second-round midget AA provincial series after losing 5-2 to the Notre Dame Argos on Wednesday.

The Estevan Sherritt Coal midget A Bruins began their quest for a provincial crown on Sunday, defeating the Yorkton Terriers 4-2 in Game 1 of their first-round series. The contest was played in Yorkton, with Game 2 coming Feb. 13 at Spectra Place.

There was a lot of big news from the SJHL's semi-annual league meetings in Melfort on the weekend, including the Bruins being awarded next year's Hall of Fame weekend.

The Estevan Bruins played a textbook game for the first 40 minutes against the second-best team in the SJHL. And then it all came crashing down.

The Wings tied one and won one on the road last week. On January 18, the Petro Bakken Wings travelled to Wilcox to play the Notre Dame Hounds and they left Wilcox with a 1-1 tie.

Supportive fans of the Weyburn Red Wings sold out the McKenna Auditorium on January 21 for the 10th annual Weyburn Red Wings Sports Dinner and Auction. The event, which featured three celebrated athletes, raised approximately $40,000 for the team.
