A step back in time for threshing at Griffin farm

Glen and Suzanne Stomp of Griffin once again hosted an old-time threshing bee on Sunday at their farm, complete with two hay racks picking up stooks of wheat to be put through an antique threshing machine. A pair of Percheron horses pulled one of the racks. The farm also features a mini-heritage village with displays in buildings, and food was available on site.

Weyburn families come out to plant trees in Tatagwa Parkway

Weyburn families came out to plant 135 trees in the Tatagwa Parkway on Saturday morning, on three strips of land across the river from River Park. The varieties included Russian Olive, Amur Maple, Buffalo Berry Shrub, Manitoba Maple, Poplar and Blue and Black Hills Spruce. The parks department will look after watering the new trees for the next two years.

Costumes, candy and spooky sites at Nickle Lake's Halloween in the Park

Hundreds of children and adults dressed up Halloween-style for the annual "Halloween in the Park" event at Nickle Lake Regional Park on Saturday, with trick-or-treating around the park in the evening. Treat bags were handed out later by park staff, along with prizes for the best costumes, before a double-feature of Halloween-themed movies were shown.

Rides, food and dance at Weyburn's Heritage Village Days

Heritage VIllage Days in Weyburn featured live entertainment, food, fun activities, rides on the antique fire truck, and displays in the various houses and buildings in the village. Entertainment included De Tricky Feet dance studio, and activities included ice cream making, baking bread in an outdoor oven, and rope-making, all done the way pioneers did it early in the 20th century.

Police, fire visit Weyburn's College for Kids program

The Southeast College's College for Kids summer program had visits from the Weyburn Police Service and Weyburn Fire Department this week as part of their "People in Your Neighbourhood" theme week. Const. Lisa Robertson of the WPS and Mark Schweitzer of the fire department showed off the equipment they use in protecting the city, and answered questions from the children.
