St. Michael students do Terry Fox School Run for cancer research

The entire student body of St. Michael School came out on Friday afternoon to Jubilee Park to do the Terry Fox School Run, raising funds for cancer research. Each student wore a patch that said who they were walking or running for, in commemoration of the run started by the late Terry Fox in 1980, running across Canada until cancer forced him to stop near Thunder Bay, Ont., and it took his life.

A small gathering of residents met at the Weyburn cenotaph in Memorial Park on Wednesday morning, in support of the One Million March for Children, including many marches and rallies held across Canada in support of parental rights. Some of those gathered had a petition for people to sign, and others had signs such as "Protect Parental Rights" and "Let Kids be Kids".

Several members of the Sooline Cruisers did a Sunday afternoon tour of the long-term care homes in Weyburn. They started at Tatagwa View, followed by the Weyburn Special Care Home, Mid-Town Care Home, and the homes on the South Hill, including Hill Top Manor and Parkway Lodge.

Weyburn residents have a 'Taste of the Nations'

Representatives of several cultures brought tasty treats from their home countries under one roof in Weyburn, as Southeast Newcomer Services and SWIS hosted a "Taste of the Nations" on Friday evening at McKenna Hall. There were food samples from a wide range of countries and cultures, including Nigeria, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Ukraine, Ecuador, Colombia, Spain and Canada. The event was held as part of "Welcoming Week" in Weyburn for all newcomers and their families.

Vet clinic open house raises funds for Isaiah Evans family

The Prairie Animal Health Clinic held an open house on Wednesday evening, and raised funds for Friends of Isaiah fundraiser, a campaign to raise funds for the Evans family to enable them to buy a medical van. There was a petting zoo, games and a barbecue on the clinic site, along with bouncy houses.
