Rural crime hit the fan again when the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) debated two resolutions on agricultural theft and rural crime at its annual convention in Saskatoon on March 13-16.

The Mankota Stockmen’s Weigh Co. held an all class cow and yearling sale on March 17 with 1,446 head sold including over 1,100 yearlings. Cows weighing 1,333 lbs. on average sold for an average $98.09 per cwt from a low of $5 to a high of $110.

The 4-H district public speaking competition took place in Assiniboia on March 10. Participating were members who received the first or second place from the Assiniboia, Rockglen and Mossbank 4-H clubs.

Tourism Saskatchewan announced that 27 businesses earned the 2017 Employer of Choice designation including the Canalta Assiniboia. This is the third year in a row that Canalta Assiniboia has received this designation.

The 1st Assiniboia Scout Group hosted an indoor electronics camp weekend on March 11 including racing cars, playing with electronics and camping overnight. They were encouraged to bring their electronics to use as part of the activities.

The Assiniboia Senior Rebels lead the championship final series 3-1 against the Mossbank Blades after winning games three and four on March 10 and 11. The Senior Rebels downed Mossbank 3-1 in game three at the Assiniboia Civic Centre on March 10.

Nash’s restaurant in Assiniboia has re-opened recently after being closed for renovations in February.

Several mental health programs are being offered at the Assiniboia Union Hospital starting in March with pre-registration required.

Hal Schrenk, who grew up in Assiniboia and now lives in Saskatoon, has been nominated for two Saskatchewan Country Music Association awards.

Assiniboia played host to the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association Boys Provincial Curling Championship on March 9-11.
