CARLYLE — The Carlyle RCMP is issuing a few reminders to the public after recent break and enters in the town.

A post on the Town of Carlyle's Facebook page said the Carlyle RCMP is reporting increasing property crime in the local area of late.

In a follow-up email to SaskToday, the RCMP advises residents to always take precautions to avoid becoming a victim of property crime:

Have eyes on your property: Consider installing a monitored security or alarm system. Install motion-sensor security lights and timer lights that turn on at sundown to illuminate a property and discourage trespassers. Trim trees and other brush in the yard to make for easy property monitoring.

Out of sight is best: Limit the number of valuable items in a home that someone could see from a window or entryway. Do not leave spare keys in an obvious spot. Keep valuable items in a safe that is hidden.

Make sure it's locked: Lock and secure doors and windows – even if home and in the backyard.

Ensure it looks occupied: The RCMP says an empty house is a thieves’ playground. Make the home appear inhabited – even if it’s not. If going away, ask someone trustworthy to stay at your place or keep an eye on your property. Avoid posting details on social media that imply not being home.

Secure vehicles: Roll up the windows and lock unattended vehicles. Don’t keep spare keys, garage door openers or valuables in them. If possible, park vehicles in garages or well-lit secure areas.

The RCMP says it’s also important to report all thefts and suspicious persons to police. When all crimes are reported, officers get a clearer picture of the types and numbers of crimes occurring in their area. This information helps them launch future police projects, initiatives and education campaigns.

According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, while there have been a few media releases and Saskatchewan Crime Watch advisories about property crime incidents in the southeast corner of the province in the past few weeks, the RCMP had its analysts look at the preliminary Carnduff, Estevan and Carlyle detachment area statistics for June and July to identify trends.

Overall, property crime dropped 15 per cent from June 2025 to July 2025 in this area. There were 16 per cent fewer reports of property crime in these detachment areas in July 2025 as compared to July 2024.

Report information by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
