SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN — A special weather statement has been issued for much of southeast Saskatchewan on July 11.
The advisory was issued by Environment Canada late in the morning and covers the far southeast corner, including the Moosomin, Carlyle and Oxbow areas, among others.
It states weak thundershowers are expected to develop this afternoon and they will have the potential to produce a funnel cloud. The storms are expected to weaken early this evening.
"These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms," the advisory states. "This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado."
These communities, as well as the Estevan and Weyburn areas, are also subject to a special air quality statement that was issued July 10. An air quality warning is in effect for much of the rest of the province due to forest fire smoke.
SaskToday will have updates as they become available.
