Registration has begun for six-week dog training course run by Andrea McEwen of Just Fur Paws Grooming. Beginning Sept.26 at the Legion Hall in Carlyle the course is being offered once a week for an hour session.

You might wonder why horse racing would be part of an agricultural column. Well it was not so long ago horse racing fell under the jurisdiction of provincial agriculture although that changed.

On Sept. 6 the Arcola School faculty hosted a back to school barbeque between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the new and returning students.

Many of you may remember a story about Shanara Gall appearing in the Observer in March. For those of you who do not know Shanara's story, it is one you will never forget. The Stoughton teen was living life as a normal teenage girl.

School has resumed and students are back to class and back to extra-curricular activities. Intramurals are taking place every lunch hour. The Cross Country Team will be running in the hills 2-3 days a week after schools.

Carlyle Town Council meeting was held. Sept 5. The news from that meeting is as follows. The town plans on doubling up the hanging planters on Main Street next year. The only concern with this is the planters are already very difficult to water.

It wasn't the biggest news story you read last week nor was it the most political. But it was a nice story ... and nice reminder that this country still works. And it comes along a time when some of us may be beginning to harbour other thoughts.

Google, I use it for almost everything. It was interesting when changes came and the search engine began guessing what you were looking for beginning a few years ago now, I believe.

On Sept. 3, 2012, in the company of family, friends and staff of Coteau Place, Doris Silcox celebrated her 100th birthday.
