ESTEVAN — A Manitoba resident who is facing multiple charges, including two related to child pornography, has been granted bail.
A show-cause hearing was held July 28 in Estevan Provincial Court to determine if the man would receive bail. He was ultimately released with conditions.
A publication ban covers the evidence provided during the show-cause hearing and the judge's reasons for granting bail. It also protects the victim's identity from being revealed and blocks any information that might identify the person, so the accused's name cannot be released at this time.
The matter is scheduled to be back before the court on Sept. 8.
Background: According to the news release for July 24, the Estevan Police Service received a complaint earlier this year, and with the assistance of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Units, a search warrant was authorized for a residence in Manitoba, which resulted in the man's arrest and seizure of several items.
He has been charged with creating child pornography, possessing child pornography, extortion and uttering threats.
The man was transported back to Estevan, where he appeared in Estevan Provincial Court July 25. He was remanded into custody for court on July 28. The EPS says it continues to investigate the allegations.
