ESTEVAN — Two straight wins put the host Estevan Brewers into the playoffs at the Baseball Saskatchewan U18 AA Tier 1 provincial championship at Lynn Prime Park.

Estevan needed to go 2-0 July 26 to have a realistic shot at making the playoffs, after dropping a 7-6 decision to the Prince Albert Royals July 25 in their opening game of the tournament.

The Brewers came through with a 15-5 win over the Moose Jaw Canucks in their first game of the day and a 9-4 triumph over the Weyburn Beavers.

Estevan, Prince Albert and Weyburn all finished with 2-1 marks in their pool during the round robin. The Brewers were awarded first place in the tie-breaker, while Prince Albert and Weyburn will meet in a play-in game on July 27 that started at 9 a.m.

Estevan is to face the Saskatoon Phillies at noon in one of the semifinals. The other semifinal is slated for 2 p.m. and the gold-medal game is to follow. A thunderstorm that rolled through the southeast during the overnight hours forced some changes to the schedule, as only one diamond is available for play.

The Brewers are the defending provincial and Western Canadian champions.
