ESTEVAN — The Estevan Fire Rescue Service does not have anyone currently deployed to the northern firefighting efforts.

According to the EFRS, on Aug. 15, the latest crew that was assisting in the north returned to Estevan with apparatus. Estevan Fire Chief Rick Davies said that as of right now, the EFRS does not have resources in the north and it is not known if there will be another deployment. Firefighters John Wells, Ben Brokenshire, Nolan LaCoste and Darson Gunnlaugson had been stationed in the Patuanak area.

The first contingent of local firefighters was sent up north on July 14. Ten different members spent at least a few days battling wildfires since that time. Some had more than one stint.

Patuanak is one of the communities that has been evacuated.

In other recent news for the EFRS, members responded to three separate false alarm calls throughout the week. Davies said there was nothing significant to report.

On Aug. 12, the EFRS was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision in northeast Estevan. Crews responded and assisted along with Estevan EMS and the Estevan Police Service. Vehicles needed to be towed from scene.
