ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service is investigating and seeking the public's assistance after members were called to a local hotel July 31 about a person who might be armed.
According to an EPS news release, members were dispatched to a hotel in the 1100-block of Third Street to a report of a person that possibly had a gun in his room. The Estevan/Weyburn Joint Tactical Support Team (JTST) assisted patrol members that were on location. Out of an abundance of caution, the EPS said officers evacuated neighbouring rooms until the situation was resolved.
Officers entered an upstairs room but did not locate the suspect(s). A search warrant was executed on the room and officers seized what the EPS called some "eventuality items". No firearm(s) were located.
The EPS says no further information will be released at this time. The police service's Criminal Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate this incident and will update the public if more information becomes available. The EPS thanks those hotel guests that were temporarily displaced while police looked into this incident.
If anyone has information about this incident or the suspects involved, they are asked to call the Estevan Police Criminal Investigation Unit at 306-634-4767 or they can contact Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
Also on July 31, the EPS received a report of a bicycle stolen from a central Estevan facility. The public is reminded to ensure bikes are locked when not in use and kept out of plain sight if possible.
