Estevan police arrests man for allegedly assaulting a child

ESTEVAN — One person has been arrested after members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) were notified about several reported assaults on a child.

According to the EPS report for June 4, members were notified by the Weyburn Police Service that an individual had attended their building to report the incidents. Based on all available information, EPS members subsequently arrested a 32-year old Estevan man for assault. 

He was processed and released later in the night on conditions to have no contact with the child. The EPS says it is working with the Ministry of Social Services to ensure that the child remains safe and receives the necessary support. No further information was released.

Also for the June 4 report, the EPS received a request for assistance from Emergency Medical Services to attend a reported drug overdose. Members arrived and administered naloxone to the individual that was in distress. The male regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital by EMS for further assessment and care.

EPS members attended to a bank ATM in response to individuals sleeping in the vestibule. The individuals were spoken to and sent on their way with a warning about using the business for sleeping.

Police received a report of a person uttering threats. The victim was spoken to and the matter is still under investigation.

EPS dispatch received an anonymous call from a male who was talking nonsensically and making statements about individuals being released from care. The caller didn’t provide sufficient information to immediately follow up, but members have reached out to various care facilities in Estevan in an attempt to identify the caller and determine the validity of their concerns. The matter remains under investigation.

A report of a theft of sporting equipment was received and the investigation is ongoing.

Police received a call late in the day about a disturbance near a local convenience store.  Members attended and spoke with the individuals involved before sending them on their separate ways. Nothing criminal occurred during the incident.

The EPS received a request to locate an individual whose family members had been unable to contact for some time. The investigation determined the whereabouts of the person and the concerned family members were advised that the individual was safe and well, and would contact them when ready.

Police received a report of an unwanted guest at a north end residence who was causing issues by not leaving when asked. The matter is still under investigation.

A 17-year old youth was reported to be locked out of their residence after having a dispute with a parent.  Police and Social Services members mediated a resolution for the evening and Social Services will follow up with those involved.
