ESTEVAN — The Estevan U17 Elite girls fast-pitch team competed at the Softball Saskatchewan U17 B provincial championships in Rosthern from July 18-20.

Twenty-one teams from across the province were entered.

Pool play began July 18 with a 14-7 win over the Regina Saints, the top-ranked B team from the Queen City. Sadie Aspinall was named Estevan’s player of the game by the Saints. Later that day, Estevan faced the host Valley Vipers in what turned out to be the deciding game for first place in the Green Pool. Estevan rallied with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but came up short, losing 8-7. Malina Stead earned player of the game honours in that contest.

The following day, Estevan concluded pool play with a convincing 9-2 win over the Saskatoon Stars. Aspinall was again selected as player of the game. Finishing tied with Melville in the standings, Estevan advanced to the championship round by edging the Mils on run differential.

Only eight of the 21 teams advanced to the playoffs July 20. Estevan faced the Swift Current Sonic, the top team from the Orange Pool. Despite a promising start, the Elite fell 13-3 to the eventual bronze medalists. Reegan Veroba was named Estevan's player of the game.
