WEYBURN — Two people have been charged and have appeared in court in connection with a series of thefts in Midale.
According to a news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, members of the Weyburn RCMP received several reports early July 26 of break and enters to vehicles and garages in Midale. Items reported as stolen include electronics, tools, cigarettes and change.
The Weyburn RCMP continued to investigate with the assistance of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Police Dog Services. Later that same day, officers located and arrested two adult males.
As a result of continued investigation, 28-year-old Gerard Edward Keenatch from Regina and 27-year-old Francis John Desjarlais from the Kawacatoose First Nation are each charged with:
Six counts of break, enter and commit;
Six counts of trespass at night; and
One count of wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence.
All charges are under the Criminal Code.
Keenatch is also charged with one count of failing to comply with a release order condition under the Criminal Code.
Keenatch and Desjarlais appeared in Weyburn Provincial Court on July 29. They are scheduled to be back in court Aug. 5 for a show-cause hearing to determine if they will receive bail.
The initial news release from the Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory Network noted there were possibly two males and one female who had been stranded in Midale as their vehicle has been abandoned, but the RCMP news release from July 29 did not mention a female being arrested or sought.
