Devin Aspinall created the ice surface in the winter of 2020-21 because kids had no opportunities to see their friends due to COVID-19 restrictions. It was a common refrain for people across the country. Thsi year he decided to keep going with the great experience.

The city employees are running the facilities adjacent to the rinks, and the ice surfaces themselves are maintained by the local service clubs. And two outdoor rinks are currently available to the public.

The Estevan Minor Hockey Association (EMHA) announced last week that Estevan would be included, joining teams from the Battlefords, Western Prairie (Rosetown), Saskatoon, Warman, Prince Albert, Northeast (Star City), Swift Current, Lumsden-Bethune and Weyburn.

"We are busier in our emergency department right now, because we've got more people coming in looking for testing and with any other signs and symptoms of COVID. So we start a little busier with that. But as far as admissions into the hospital, we see no change on that," Cheryl Harrison, St. Joseph's Hospital nurse manager.
