In the Community

To all the citizens of Assiniboia and District. This is a time to be strong and resilient. It is the time to look after ourselves, our families and neighbours to make sure we are safe. To keep safe, we must follow public health guidelines.

With everything going on in the world right now, all the branches of the Palliser Regional Library had to officially close to their doors to the public.

An international emergency has been declared. Coronavirus cases are rising. The likelihood of anyone getting exposed to COVID-19 is increasing. Everyone should know what to do if they get exposed and have to self-quarantine.

Seeding time and harvest time in our lives

Even though I do my best to stay away from current news items in these weekly articles, who can escape the reality of the corona virus pandemic? My thoughts, as I sit and type these words, hark back to my decades of legalistic training.

Don’t Give Up Chocolate for Lent

It’s been said: “No one loves the messenger who brings bad news.” Be it an ancient seer or the local radio station, no voice proclaiming such news is welcomed. I admit that for many years, rather decades, I was a newscast addict.

Saskatchewan first instituted liquor laws in the province in 1908. Local authorities were given the authority to grant liquor licences for bars in their area. Moose Jaw originally prohibited liquor licences, but reversed this law in 1910.

The 88 th annual Assiniboia and District Music Festival kicked off two weeks earlier with a steak night fundraiser at 121 Steakhouse on Thursday, March 5.
