If you are in a large family, the first thing you need is a sense of humour. Comedian Jim Graffigan says parents get burned out in big families, even naming of children.

What started as a customary "good morning" greeting from our deck to the neighbour's, ended up as a gathering of friends around the neighbour's breakfast table. It was unplanned and an unmitigated success. In terms of neighbours, we've got the best.

Pause for reflection

Dubbed the "Bummer Summer" by British Columbian standards, it's been a cool, wet first half of the year. Personally I haven't missed the scorching temperatures blanketing much of the continent but I can't say the same for the garden.

It isn't often that I see the Lord's hand at work so clearly through what I try to do in this weekly column. Sometimes it feels like a weakly column.

This article is a week overdue but I figure the thoughts that provoked its writing are always relevant.

There was strong evidence against a defendant in a murder trial, but there was no corpse.

A lawyer had a jury trial in a very difficult business case. The client who had attended the trial was out of town when the jury came back with its decision, which was for the lawyer and his client.

For Powell River it was quite the traffic jam. There were at least half a dozen cars waiting their turn at a four-way stop.
