Concert goers can expect a high-powered engaging performance mixed with a lot of laughs from Eh440.
The five-piece Toronto based a cappella band, Eh440, will be performing at the Cugnet Centre on Friday, April 22. They will be taking the stage with nothing but their voices. This event is hosted by the Weyburn Concert Series.
Eh440 is currently on a tour during the month of April, which was a result of a showcase the band did back in the fall of 2014 for programmers from across the province.
“Eh440 had a great showcase performance here that led to them getting one of the largest tours of the season,” said Skip Taylor, Performing Arts Coordinator for the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC). “We’re very excited for all the communities presenting the group and we know concert goers will love them.”
“We take our music seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously! We have a lot of fun and keep the audience guessing,” says beatboxer Luke Stapleton.
“Before I joined Eh440 my perception of a cappella was not very favourable, but I quickly realized how wrong I was,” said Stacey Kay, one of the lead vocalists of Eh440. “I hope people will give it a try because they will be pleasantly surprised!”
Eh440 will be releasing their second album “Boss Level” exclusively during this tour. The official release will not be until the summer, but Saskatchewan residents can purchase the new album at any one of concert dates.
Eh440’s first performance was in 2012 performing in front of 20,000 people at the Air Canada Centre, performing the national anthems for the Toronto Raptors.
They’ve since appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den (and got a deal), won the Stingray Music (formerly Galaxie) Rising Star Award, an Independent Music Award, and were recently named the #1 Campus Touring Artist in the USA. They also caught the attention of six-time JUNO award winner Serena Ryder who was featured on their debut album.
“The five of us individually have all had other successful musical projects, but Eh440 just seems to be clicking with people and has taken off quickly. The positive reaction we’re getting south of the border and overseas is unlike anything any of us have previously experienced.” said bass singer Joe Oliva.
Stacey Kay was also featured on two episodes of the hit TV show America’s Got Talent.
The members of Eh440 are Janet Turner, Stacey Kay, Joe Oliva, Jake Stern and Luke Stapleton (whose stage name is The Human Record).
