The Estevan Arts Council (EAC) has announced the selection of the adjudicator for its upcoming Ev Johnson Memorial Adjudicated Art Show.

Kim Ennis has been selected as the person who will evaluate the entries for the show, which will take place at the Estevan Leisure Centre’s multipurpose room. A public reception for the show will happen on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

He will also lead a collage workshop on Nov. 5 at the arts council’s craft room, starting at 10 a.m.

Ennis was born in Saskatoon in 1956. Drawing and painting independently until 1980, he then became a protégé of the late W.H. Epp, and worked mainly in bronze, stone and wood for the next two decades.

In 2009, he completed a bachelor of fine arts in painting with great distinction at the University of Saskatchewan. He then completed a special case master of arts in art history in 2012, with his thesis, The Numinous Land, on spiritual aspects of Saskatchewan painting.

He owns and operates Vanishing Point Picture Framing, teaches painting and studio practice in the University of Saskatchewan’s community arts program, and paints in his home studio.

Brochures and entry forms for the art show are available at the Estevan Arts Council’s office. More information on the art show can be found on the arts council’s Facebook page or by contacting the office at 306-634-3942. The deadline to register for the show is Oct. 20.

People will need to pre-register for the workshop as well. The deadline for the workshop is Nov. 2. The workshop is open to the public.

The adjudicated art show is held each year as an opportunity for local artists to showcase their talents and have their art evaluated by an adjudicator. Entrants need to submit at least five selections of the same media and a similar theme.

The art show is named after the late Evelyn Johnson, who participated in the show on numerous occasions, and was an avid supporter of the arts in Estevan.

The Estevan Arts Council is a community organization dedicated to bringing arts and entertainment opportunities to Estevan. It is part of the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC).
