Culture Pass offers summer fun

Any patriotic Canadians looking for fun activities in Estevan throughout the summer might do well to check out the Estevan Summer Culture Pass.

Any patriotic Canadians looking for fun activities in Estevan throughout the summer might do well to check out the Estevan Summer Culture Pass.

The event, which takes place from May until September, is organized by the local arts and culture community in celebration of Canada 150 and will have thousands of dollars in prizes to give away.

“We’re getting people to go through Estevan to our different sites like Woodlawn Park, the museum, the art gallery, obviously anything arts and culture related, we all have events that are running, and people are going to go to each of those events,” said Rebecca Eddy, adult program coordinator at the Estevan Public Library.

“They’re going to get a passport, which they can pick up at any location that’s participating, and we have prizes to give out at the end of it all, so if you have 10 plus stamps, you get your name put into a $1,000 draw and there’s going to be lots of other good prizes as well.”

After participants get their passports they can get them stamped at the above-mentioned events, and that’s how to become eligible for the draws and prizes.

The stamped passports can then be dropped off at any participating locations with the participant’s name and phone number by Sept. 15, or during the Estevan Business Showcase on Sept. 24, where the draws will take place.

Participating members include the Estevan Arts Council, Estevan Gallery and Museum, Estevan Public Library, Southeast Newcomers, Souris Valley Museum, Souris Valley Theatre and Woodlawn Regional Park, with activates being hosted like mosaic creations, science fun, cultural dances, historical movie screening, cowpokes and cookouts, concerts and a beach bash.

Other prizes include a Braven portable Bluetooth speaker from Audio Video for those who get four to nine stamps and a family photo session with JMW Photography for those who get one to three stamps.

Eddy said the Estevan Summer Culture pass is also a good way to get involved in the community, have fun, and just see what’s going on around town.

She added, “We’ve come such a long ways as a country, we’re so diverse now and it’s just important to celebrate that because it’s a big achievement for us and we just want to celebrate our culture.”
