An up-and-coming Belgium singer and song-writer will be showcased during a gig at the Smaug’s Smoke Shop in Weyburn on Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m.
Louis De Roo had recently performed at ArtFarm, and will be showcasing his songs again before returning to England. He was in the country to visit with Rylan Chessall, a classmate from the University of Liverpool.
“When I was 19, I did my audition for Liverpool, and the first day I was there I met Rylan.”
Louis and Rylan then formed the eclectic pop band band ‘De Roo’.
“I am inspired by melancholic and ambient music, the Blues, and rock and roll as well,” said De Roo.
One of the massive hits for the band was “Don’t Hold It Back”, which ran three months in the European music charts and even reached Number One. From this success, De Roo’s band had an opportunity to play for the Belgium national radio.
De Roo met Dane Von Hagen, Josiah Haupstein and Brady Kwochka (Private Drive) when they had visited with Rylan Chessall in Liverpool. The members of Private Drive invited De Roo to come to Weyburn. “It had always been my dream to come to Canada,” said De Roo.
He said it was a great opportunity to showcase his songs during ArtFarm. He is looking forward to featuring songs that he has written.
It is also a great experience to be performing again with Private Drive. “I consider them to be my friends for life,” said De Roo. “Since meeting them at the Liverpool studio, I have seen their progress. They are very talented.”
“They will make it far if they keep on doing what they are doing.”
