Detective Harry Monday has found himself way over his head in the upcoming Agricultural Society play “Monday Always Leads to Murder”.
“Monday Always Leads to Murder” is written by Pat Cook. The Weyburn Agricultural Society is working in partnership with Crocus 80 Theatre.
In the comedic play, Harry Monday, who is a cliché in a trenchcoat and fedora, is off on another case. This time, he is trying to solve a 20-year-old murder mystery and write a play about his career at the same time.
Harry already has been hired to find an artifact for one client, when a mousy little woman wants him to solve the murders and then officer Brogan rushes in and arrests her.
Through the chaos of the play, an actor starts masquerading as Harry. A janitor shows up at all the right (or wrong) times. Of course, the final touch is when the curse of a missing artifact appears.
Throughout the play, Harry manages to wisecrack his way through yet another fast-paced, clue-strewn mystery. He often breaks the ‘fourth wall’, talking to the audience and requesting their assistance in solving the murders.
As typical for the Harry Monday plays, the audience will be able to view the clues of the case during the intermission of the two acts, and make their own assumptions about the case that needs to be solved. As Harry quips, “everyone is a suspect, and everyone has a secret that they are hiding.”
In the role of Harry Monday is Logan White. Other cast include: Susan Adderley as Courtney Delecroix, Carol Reeve as Pearl Van Beesley, Sabrina Kraft as Mildred Bannister, Derek Brillinger as Officer Brogan, Chris Gillespie as Pop, Sean Riley as Sol Jahar, Pete Broccolo as Horace Barnstable, Arun Masand in the roles of Assam Hammadan and a burger; Dave Rennie in the roles as Desmond Sloan, Delbert Barnstable and a burglar; and Tracy Cameron in the roles of Veronica Reynolds and Margueritte Barnstable. The director is Neal Keefe..
Tickets for “Monday Always Leads to Murder” are available at the Ag. Society office and at Superior Office Supply.
It will be staged as dinner theatres at the Royal Canadian Legion on Thursday to Saturday, March 10 to 12, and a dessert matinee on Sunday, March 13. Tickets cost $40 for the dinner theatres and $20 for the dessert matinee.
This is the second time that the Weyburn Agricultural Society has presented a Harry Monday play, as they had staged “Murder’s Bad But Monday Can Kill You” in 2013.
For the last few years, the Weyburn Agricultural Society has worked in partnership with Crocus 80 Theatre for the dinner theatre fundraisers.
Funds raised by the dinner theatre help support programs and services provided by the Weyburn Agricultural Society, including their annual Weyburn Fair. Information on their upcoming season can be found on their website.
