Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Hawkins and his band, The Do Good Assassins, will be the opening act for Blue Rodeo when the Canadian country-rock group appears at Affinity Place on Jan. 15.

Hawkins and his band will continue to perform with Blue Rodeo in Western Canada, right through to Victoria, and will remain with Blue Rodeo until their Feb. 3 performance in Toronto.

Tunes from Hawkins’ releases Garden Songs and Spit, Sputter and Sparkle will be performed during his performances, along with a couple of tracks from his days with the band Lowest of the Low.

Hawkins’ current album, Spit, Sputter and Sparkle, features 11 original songs, including Beautiful Girl, Till It Kills Ya and new single Swamp. He also put together a video for Swamp as an ode to the highly acclaimed television series Breaking Bad.

Meanwhile, Hawkins has also been in the studio with Lowest of the Low, recording their first album in 12 years. Release and touring dates are scheduled for the end of April 2017.

As lead singer/multi-instrumentalist of Canada's Lowest of the Low, Hawkins has enjoyed many accolades through the years. Chart Magazine honoured the group's 1991 debut album Shakespeare My Butt with a spot in the top 10 for the Top 100 Canadian Albums of All Time. Ron has  received Toronto station 102.1 The Edge's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 and has been voted Songwriter of the Year by Now Magazine's reader's poll in 2000 and 2015.

In 2008 Lowest of the Low was inducted into the Canadian Indie Rock Hall of Fame and awarded a gold record for Shakespeare My Butt.
