The Weyburn Humane Society will host their second annual "Raise the Roof" stand-up comedy fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 28 at McKenna Hall.

The event features a roast beef dinner and a silent auction. It starts with a social at 6 p.m., with the supper at 7 p.m., and the show at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and are available at Superior Office Products. Groups or businesses interested in reserve seating can contact Pat Anderson or Randy Bakaluk.

This fundraiser will raise funds for the Weyburn Humane Society, help with the upkeep of their current facility, and provide supplies for animals who are awaiting "fur-ever" homes.

Recently, the Humane Society had a work bee for their facility, and installed curving around the dog kennels, to prevent the dogs from digging holes under the fencing.

"We are always looking at improvements and other renovations inside," said Kelly Eddy, president of the Humane Society.

One of the bigger wishes for the Humane Society is to build a new facility, since there is a growing demand on their services, and a new facility would provide more space for the animals. The "Raise the Roof" fundraiser was created to start collecting funds for a new facility.

"We want a new facility for our services. The demand on the Humane Society has increased since we started the animal control program," said Eddy.

She said that a bigger facility would allow more room for the care of the dogs and cats in their care, and a new design would improve air flow - which would decrease the chance of sickness among the animals.

The need for more space is often apparent when it comes to the cat room, especially when the Humane Society has a large number of cats and kittens.

Over the weekend, a number of cats and kittens were showcased at the PetValu, and Eddy noted that they received a number of adoption applications to help find "fur-ever" homes.

"We do have some mother cats and kittens who will be coming out of isolation soon, and will be available to be adopted," added Eddy.

One of those kittens is Kliff, who was born with a cleft palate and will require surgery.

The Humane Society has raised enough funds for the surgery, and just have to wait until Kliff is old enough to undergo surgery.

If anyone wants to donate funds or supplies to the Humane Society, they can contact Kelly Eddy or Pat Anderson.
