The John Mellencamp concert on Oct. 26 was well received by Estevan area residents, as over 2,400 tickets were sold, generating a net profit of $21,000 for the City of Estevan, according to a press release sent out on Monday afternoon.
With the scheduling of the event on a Friday evening, bar and food sales were up from previous shows.
“The city continues to see concerts as a vital piece to the tourism and promotion of our community,” the City of Estevan stated in a news release. “Restaurants, hotels, and bar establishments all see the positive impacts of getting individuals into the city for a night of quality entertainment.”
Since Affinity Place opened in 2011, there have been many shows at the venue. A review of all profits and losses over that time shows the City has essentially broken even in total while hosting these events.
The positive impacts to the local economy as well as the initiative to provide quality entertainment to citizens will remain a focus as the city moves into 2019. The city is already looking for acts in the spring, once the ice is out at Affinity Place.
