The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM) is showcasing the talents of some local photographers, with an exhibit from the South Sask. Photo Club in its project space.

Speaking at a reception on Nov. 10, EAGM director Amber Andersen said the photographs are from the winners of the photo club’s annual adjudicated photography show earlier in the year.

The show is judged by a professional photographer, and there were winners in several different categories.

Jon Gillies, who instructs the photo club, noted in a written statement that the photos on the project space represent a small sample of more than 100 photos that were entered in this year’s competition.

“Our South Sask Photo Club is made up of a group of friends who are interested in getting to know each other better … through photography,” said Gillies.

Gillies introduces a basic and advanced skill to members at every meeting. They have fun and they take field trips to further their photography skills.

“If you love photography or just want to learn more about your camera, this club is essential,” Gillies said in his artist statement.

Gillies noted that it is not necessary to have an expensive camera to be part of the club, as even the cameras found in phones can take good pictures.

The photo club meets at the EAGM during the final Tuesday of each month, except for December, July and August.
