The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum’s second annual Estevan Derby hobby horse fundraiser was a popular event.
Nearly 150 people attended the event on Saturday evening at the Southeast College’s Estevan campus. Local businesses and organizations entered wooden hobby horses, with one person serving as the jockey and the other acting as a trainer.
The trainer rolled dice, determining how many spaces the jockey moved the hobby horse down the makeshift track.
Forty-nine horses were entered and were divided into five heats. The top two finishers from each heat advanced to the final.
The Hub International insurance agency, which purchased Cathedral Insurance Brokers earlier this year, was the first to cross the finish line in the final. Reni Beatty was the jockey for Hub’s horse, Low Expectations.
Proceeds from the Estevan Derby will be directed to the EAGM’s programming.
