Students from Weyburn and the surrounding area will be attending the Signal Hill Arts Centre in May for clay classes, and for an additional treat, artist trading cards.
The Young Fellows Club donated $1,000 towards the May clay program, which will run for the 26th year, starting the week of May 13-17.
Sessions will also be held on May 23-24, 28 and 30-31, with the clay project to be a clay monster, led by instructor Terry Creurer.
The students will learn a simple technique working with clay, and they will have the opportunity to paint their project in class using bright under-glaze colours.
After the projects are finished, they will be coated with clear glaze and will be fired. The monster projects will be put on display at Signal Hill for the first two weeks of June.
There are a total of 18 sessions available for the clay classes, and six for the artist trading cards, which will be added to the clay class on May 28, 30 and 31.
The artist trading cards classes will be taught by Terri Fidelak, an intermedia artist from Regina who works in drawing, sculpture, installation and social practice.
The trading cards will be the approximate size of a hockey card, and this will allow students to experiment with different materials and techniques.
The students will do three cards and will be able to keep one, with one to go into a binder that will be traded with other schools, and one to go on display at the Mackenzie Art Gallery as part of an exhibition from Sept. 8 to 22.
The artist trading card sessions are being paid for by the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange.
