Regina’s Globe Theatre will once again be touring Saskatchewan with “Million Dollar Quartet”. The Rotary Club of Weyburn will host the rock and roll musical on Saturday, September 10 at the Cugnet Centre, at 7:30 p.m.
“Million Dollar Quartet” is the hit musical inspired by the legendary recording session in 1956 that brought together then rising star Johnny Cash, unknown Jerry Lee Lewis, veteran musician Carl Perkins and chart-topper Elvis Presley for the first and only time.
This musical is a powerhouse performance with its extraordinary roster of musical talent and all the hip shaking, guitar twanging hits that these rock and roll giants made famous.
Tickets are available at Music Craft and Superior Office Products or by calling 306-842-5891.
Globe Theatre’s production of Million Dollar Quartet boasts a team of amazing talent, helmed by Saskatchewan’s own Danny Balkwill. A native of Regina, Balkwill began his career as an actor, performing across North America in such hits as Mamma Mia and Rock of Ages as well as appearing in many Globe Theatre hit productions.
Joining Danny on the creative team is set and costume designer Wes D. Pearce, whose award-winning career includes numerous set and costume designs for Globe Theatre, Persephone Theatre, Stage West, Western Canada Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects and Prairie Theatre Exchange. Rounding out the creative team is Beth Grieve as stage manager and Kenilee Kehler as assistant stage manager.
A nation-wide search was conducted to find the artists with the talent and skills to take on the iconic roles of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. In the role of Johnny Cash is Yorkton-native Kevin Aichele, fresh from his starring role in the New York premiere of Tim Rice’s From Here to Eternity. A favourite of Globe audiences, Kevin has made Saskatchewan proud with his exceptional work with theatre companies across Canada and the U.S.
Another Saskatchewan native joins the cast as Elvis Presley. George Krissa is originally from Lashburn and makes his debut on the Globe stage having just appeared as Tony in the award-winning production of West Side Story at Citadel Theatre in Edmonton.
Elliott Loran is in the dynamic portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis. This is a young actor on the rise who will energize the crowd with his showmanship, true to the icon he portrays.
The final member of the quartet, Carl Perkins, is portrayed by Scott Perrie who returns to Globe having previously appeared in Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story and The Drowsy Chaperone. A mainstay in the Vancouver theatre scene, Scott is also an accomplished singer and songwriter and is gaining acclaim for his work with his wife, Leora Joy Perrie as the Winsome Kind duo.
Filling out the cast will be Clinton Walker as the legendary producer Sam Phillips, Lindsay Croxall as the sensuous vocal powerhouse Dyanne, Christopher A.D. Berti on the stand-up bass as Brother Jay Perkins and Mike Thompson as Fluke the drummer.
