It is the most wonderful time of the year, the sounds of music are heard everywhere we go and that reminds members of the Estevan and District Music Festival committee that this annual event is looming on the horizon.
Pam Dechief has been re-installed as president of the music festival committee that met recently to establish the deadline dates for the 2016 applications and the various festival categories.
The registration deadline has been set for Jan. 29, 2016.
The online form can be found at: http://smfa.ca and follow the links. The form may be submitted online or mailed directly to Leanne Carlson, entry secretary. The committee is encouraging registrants to use the online entry system. Other files and links to information such as the provincial syllabus and local addendum can be found there as
The actual music festival performances will begin on March 11 with the speech and vocal entries and they will continue until March 15. The band entries begin their work on March 21 and will continue through to March 23.
Following the Easter break, the piano entries will be heard from April 10 to 15 with the concluding awards and highlight concert slated for the Estevan Comprehensive School’s Cafetorium on April 19. The finale concert and awards event provides a full evening of entertainment, said festival organizers.
The above dates may still be subject to change in the event one of the adjudicators is not available for the scheduled dates, but that is unlikely, they said.
