New season to begin for Weyburn Concert Series

A new and exciting year is about to begin for Weyburn Concert Series. Once again the line-up of artists will encompass a variety of entertainment genres including country, jazz and popular music.

A new and exciting year is about to begin for Weyburn Concert Series. Once again the line-up of artists will encompass a variety of entertainment genres including country, jazz and popular music. Each concert will be held in the Weyburn Comprehensive Cafetorium beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The first concert of the season features David Myles. He will be performing music from his new album, 'Into the Sun,' on Tuesday, October 9. Be prepared to take a musical adventure that explores his long-time love with Brazilian and African music combining intricate song writing, soaring harmonies and flawless musicianship.

John McDermott will be performing on November 20. His outstanding musical career includes three Canadian platinum records, five Juno nominations and a solid international following. John will be performing many favorite selections as well as a number of Christmas classics with his trio.

If you are a Beatles fan you won't want to miss Jim Witter, who will be performing on January 14. Witter presents 'A Long and Winding Road', paying tribute to John Lennon and Paul McCartney, one of the greatest songwriting teams of our generation.

The Weyburn Concert Series, along with Prairie Debut, will bring Wolak & Donnelly to Weyburn on February 25. Chris Donnelly represents a new generation of jazz pianists and clarinettist Kornel Wokak is well on his way to a major career as a soloist and chamber musician. This duo is known for their incredible energy and musical talent.

Engaging and musically captivating are words that describe the Jesse Peters Trio, performing in Weyburn on March 13. Ranging from original tunes to favorite songs that are tributes to Ray Charles, Jesse has crafted a set of tunes that beg to be shared.

Be sure to mark April 19 on your calendar, for it is the date of the final concert of the season as well as a fundraising event for the Triple C Centre. Featured will be Brad Johner and The Johner Boys. Brad's accomplishments include five CDs and a number of awards including Male Artist of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Appearing with Brad will be his five boys, who not only are a talented backup band, but they present their own music with confidence and professionalism.

Season tickets for the Weyburn Concert Series are still available and can be purchased at Superior Office Products or by phoning 842-2444. Memberships will also be for sale at the first concert.
