Saskatchewan elementary and high school students particiapted in a province-wide Student Vote program for the provincial election.
There were over 20,000 elementary and high school students to cast ballots on Wednesday and Thursday. They all voted for the official candidates running in the provincial election.
A total of 336 schools were registered to participate in Student Vote Saskatchewan, representing all 61 constituencies across the province.
The Student Vote Saskatchewan results will be released at the close of actual provincial polls on Monday, April 4.
Due to the holidays and spring break, the Student Vote Day was held March 23 and 24. Students will take on the roles of deputy returning officers and poll clerks, and vote for the official candidates running in their constituency.
Their vote follows a series of instruction and activities focused on government and elections, research into the candidates, leaders and party platforms, as well as dialogue with family and friends.
Student Vote enables teachers to bring democracy alive in the classroom, and empowers students to experience the voting process firsthand and practice the habits of informed and active citizenship.
Student Vote is the flagship program of CIVIX.
